Motion and still film divide this investigation into their respective operational realities of various archiving strategies and technologies. The latter indicates the process of digitization and how this poses a whole new set of difficulties for the future. Film materials and their chemical structure have been thoroughly studied and with an awareness of their permanent need for care, deterioration can, however, still be counteracted. Thus, the preservation of a legacy, that goes beyond purely artistic purposes, permanently records the way a country, a society or even a specific person portrayed their world and enables an invaluable understanding of the past.
